The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has cut down ceiling tariffs for national roaming service from May 1, directing the telecom companies to offer special roaming tariff plans from the same date.

As per the reduced tariff, an outgoing local voice call on national roaming will cost 80 paise per minute, while incoming local call charges on roaming will be 45 paise per minute.

The outgoing STD call will be reduced from the existing 1.50 rupees per minute to 1.15 rupees per minute.

The outgoing local SMS on national roaming will now coast 25 paise per message from the present one rupee.

At present, the standard outgoing voice calls and SMS on the national roaming costs one rupee per minute.
