A British golfer was savaged by a crocodile in Mexico.

The crocodile clamped its jaws around the leg of Dougie Thomson who was being dragged into the lagoon when his pals rushed over and started belting the 12ft reptile with a club and another ran it over with a buggy until it loosened its grip and skulked back to its swamp, the Mirror reported.

The 58-year-old man, who was playing golf with his friends while on holiday, did not lose his leg but had to get 200 staples.
