Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 166.30 points up to stand at 27,895.97 on Thursday.
The National Stock Exchange (NIFTY) closed 37.15 points up to stand at 8,398.00.
MMTC and WELCORP were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 20 percent and 10.59 percent along with HINDCOPPER and GMRINFRA with an increase of 10.17 percent and 8.01 percent respectively.
The top losers of Group A included KPIT and MINDTREE with a decrease of 9.08 percent and 5.05 percent respectively, and PMCFIN and CANARA BANK with a decrease of 4.89 percent and 4.08 percent at the close.
The auto sector ended 165.24 points up at 18,787.03, while the banking sector ended 168.10 points up at 21,214.90.
The realty sector ended 14.84 points up at 1,426.68.
The Indian currency, however, went down 0.01 percent to end at Rs.63.60 to the dollar.
