Exporters in carpet industry in Uttar Pradesh expected a boost in sales after the recent five-day U.S visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Traders say that the Bhadohi region of the state is one of the largest manufacturers of carpets and is considered to be an earning town.

Also, 60 per cent of the carpets are exported to the U.S. from India. In a bid to boost the industry, exporters said Modi's US visit would benefit them.

"Sixty per cent of the carpets from Bhadohi-Mirzapur regions are exported to America. Modi's visit popularised India as more than 20,000 people present were of Indian origin and many others watched it over the television. India is popularised and so will our carpets. We think that Modi's visit will help in increase the sale of Indian carpets," said a carpet exporter, Lalan Maurya.

Modi's five-day United States visit was aimed to woo corporate titans and crown a burst of investment-focused diplomacy.

He also met President Barack Obama, where the two leaders aimed to reinvigorate a relationship that has failed so far to live up to billing by the latter as "one of the defining partnerships of the 21st Century."

"Modi's visit has brought about a change. People are getting to know about India. Right now there is no change in the industry but we hope that in coming days the image of carpet industry will change," said another exporter, Ashok Kapoor.

The traders, however, added that the basic problems faced by them were electricity, proper roads and clean water. They expect that Modi government will bring a change, which will help them in increase their production.
