The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered case against two persons for misusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name for creating a website.
The complaint has been filed for cheating and defrauding the general public at large by putting the impression of acquiring the franchise by naming the institute as 'Narendra Modi Computer Sakshar Mission'.
The accused, who claimed themselves as the president and secretary of the institute, have been booked under criminal conspiracy, cheating and online fraud.
However, the accused have declared the website as a corporate entity with its registered office in Delhi.
As per sources, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had in December last year received such complaints about the same.
The PMO then directed the CBI to probe the matter.
The CBI conducted searches in Uttar Pradesh and registered case against the duo.
