The West Bengal Government has been asked to send a report to the Centre on the gang rape of an elderly nun at a convent in the state's Nadia District.

The Union Home Ministry has reportedly sought a detailed report on the incident, including whether there was enough security at the convent and whether all steps have been taken to prevent such incidents in future.

The state government has also been asked to inform the Centre about the action taken to punish those involved in the incident.

The 72-year-old nun was allegedly gang raped by dacoits at Gangnapur on Saturday morning after which a CID probe was ordered into the incident.

A study of the CCTV footage at the convent in the Ranaghat sub-division shows four persons allegedly committing the crime.

So far, ten persons have been detained in connection with the crime.

Police has announced a reward of one lakh rupees to any individual providing credible information leading to the arrest of the accused.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured that a CID probe is on and guilty will be nabbed soon.
