Openers KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel produced a calm and composed performance as India reached 60 for no loss at stumps on the second day of the fifth and final dead-rubber Test against England at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who was asked to open the innings in place of injured opener Murali Vijay, remained unbeaten at 28 runs with Lokesh Rahul standing firm at 30 at the end of the day's play.
Earlier, resuming at yesterday's score of 284-4, Moeen Ali smashed 13 boundaries and a six in his blistering 146-run knock besides sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 86 runs with Jonny Bairstow (49).
Liam Dawson (unbeaten at 66) and Adil Rashid (60) also made significant contributions to help the visitors post a respectable first-innings total of 477 runs.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets while Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma scalped two wickets each.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Sharma could only add a wicket each in their account.
The Virat Kohli-led side have already clinched the five-match series following their crushing win by an innings and 36 runs against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai .
