A man in China is undergoing a surgery where the doctors are growing a basketball-sized face on his chest, after he suffered horrific burns.
Chinese Yan Jianbin suffered severe burns to his face when he was electrocuted and now doctors are attempting to give him a new one from the left side of his chest and will soon carve a face onto it, which will then be reattached to his damaged profile, the Daily star reported.
The former technician suffered the powerful shock as he opened the door of a high-voltage transformer to peer inside while working in China's Hebei Province and the doctors embarked on a detailed procedure to stretch the skin on the left side of his chest six months ago.
After injecting saline water into Yan's chest, doctors hope the skin will expand enough to then create facial features and then Yan will go undergo plastic surgery for the next two years, which will broken down into five phases.
The first two steps involve building a new nose using part of Yan's rib cartilage and newly-created skin and then blood vessels and arteries will be created, with the final phase of a face transplant and the fine-tuning of Yan's facial features.
