The United States Senate has voted overwhelmingly to confirm Christopher Wray as the new FBI director.
The vote was 92-5, CNN reports.
Democratic Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, Ed Markey and Jeff Merkley voted against confirmation.
Wray was a top Justice Department official during the George W. Bush administration. He was recommended unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 20.
Wray succeeds James Comey, who was fired by President Donald Trump in May.
Wray received bipartisan support during his confirmation hearing, when he promised lawmakers that he was outside the President's sphere of influence.

He also said he would resist any efforts to politicise the bureau as it helps investigate Trump aides' involvement with Russia.
Wray's hearing came more than two months after President Trump abruptly fired Comey, who had led the bureau since September 2013.
