CIC financial powers restored by government

The Department of Expenditure of the Ministry of Finance has restored the financial powers of the Chief Information Commissioner.

According to a Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) notification, the restoration of the CIC's financial powers was conveyed through Letter No. F.No.4/26/2007-IR dated July 28.

Many feel that the autonomous functioning of the Central Information Commission (CIC) is the key to a strong and transparent regime, and therefore, taking away the financial powers of the CIC in the initial stages was a mistake.
