Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Vice Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi on Sunday said that stringent action will be taken into the clash that broke out between students and police last night in college campus.
Clash was erupted on BHU campus on Saturday night after students from boys' hostels allegedly hurled stones and petrol bombs, targeting the police and paramilitary forces on VC Lodge Road.
Speaking to ANI, the varsity's VC said, "An unfortunate incident took place with one of our students. We are committed to stringent action and did so too. The student initially had complaints with the University, but now that is not the case. Some complained about installation of CCTVs which is under process. Some girls said University should be more sensitive towards safety."
He further said that safety and security is important in the campus and added that some anti-social elements are trying to spoil the environment of the college.
"We had information that some anti-social elements are trying to disturb the environment of the University," he added
Meanwhile security was beefed up outside BHU after the clash.
The clash broke out after the police lathicharged the protesting students including girls.
The students staged the protest alleging that BHU administration indulged in victim shaming after one student had reported an incident of molestation to them.
"Boys were lathicharged but even girls were not spared. We were even given the choicest abuses," said of the female.
