Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, on Wednesday welcomed the decision of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) students to resume attending classes and said the government is committed to make it an institute of national importance.

"We welcome the decision of the FTII students to resume attending classes. We have been engaging with them for five rounds of discussion and we are committed to make FTII an institute of national importance and we will remain engaged with the students and the faculty," said Rathore

Students of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India today called off their 139-day-old strike demanding the removal of Gajendra Chauhan as its chairman, but vowed to continue it at various levels.

The students started their strike on June 12 to protest against the appointments of Chauhan as chairperson and the appointments of four members to the FTII society.
