Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lashed out at the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, saying they have turned Maharashtra into "scam Maharashtra" ever since they came to power in the state 15 years ago.

"Congress and NCP are the same. They both are corrupt and it is because of them that farmers are committing suicide. They make up rumours and say that I want to stop the exportation of onions from India but they are lying. These allegations are completely false," Prime Minister Modi said in a rally at Ahmednagar.

"They have converted Maharashtra in to a scam Maharashtra but we will change scam Maharashtra to skill Maharashtra. Make the BJP win by a majority in Maharashtra to save the state. Free Maharashtra from dynastic politics," he added.

"Had last 15 years been utilized for welfare of Maharashtra, had they strengthened law and order situation in the state, Maharashtra would have achieved new heights. But all that the government here did was to loot Maharashtra," the Prime Minister said.

He also promised that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would take the state towards a new direction by generating employment and introducing new schemes if it came to power in Maharashtra.

"There was a time when Maharashtra showed way to the nation. It is important to take Maharashtra to a new direction of development. We will generate employment for the youth of Maharashtra by introducing new schemes. It is our priority," Prime Minister Modi said.

"You should form such a government in Maharashtra that when it stands together with Delhi its power increases threefold. We have shown the world what a stable government is," he added.

Prime Minister Modi is holding a slew of rallies across Maharashtra, before the state goes to polls next week on October 15.
