Ousted Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat on Friday hailed the 'Loktantra Bachaao Yatra' taken out by the Congress against the BJP's move to topple the government in the hill state, saying the grand old party will make all sorts of sacrifices to save democracy.
"The Congress workers in thousands have gone from here to participate in the march. Our march was successful, the speech which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi gave was very inspiring. The Congress will make all sorts of sacrifices to save the democracy," Rawat told ANI.
Commenting on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summons to him for his alleged involvement in bribing the legislators of the state, Rawat said he is not guilty, adding the people are watching the BJP's misdeeds.
"The BJP is playing openly now, it is ready to give any amount to our ministers, which is why they are levelling allegations on us. That's why I have said that the CD, which has been shown on March 26, is all fraud. The people are watching, they know what is happening. They (the Centre) wanted President's rule, they did it," he said.
Earlier today, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh led a 'Loktantra Bachaao Yatra' from the Jantar Mantar to Parliament highlighting the failures of the BJP and misuse of power by the Centre to topple the democratically elected governments in states led by the opposition.
The 'Loktantra Bachaao Yatra' was organised amid a face-off between the Opposition and the BJP led-NDA Government at the Centre over various issues, including the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal and the Uttarakhand political crisis.
