Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Sunday assured the people of Gujarat that his party would not support any policy which goes against the public interest.
"Tomorrow, the Parliament starts. The party's strategy committee will decide what course to take. But I can assure the people of Gujarat that Congress will not support any policy which goes against the interest of the people," he said.
Patel said that he would not like to make any comment about the suit which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has auctioned.
"Media has been asking me about the suit which the PM has auctioned. I don't want to make any personal comment but only want to remind him what he said in a rally in Bengal. He had said he loves art but questioned who was paying so much of money for the paintings, which were auctioned. Doesn't the same apply now?" he said.
Patel, who unveiled a bronze statue of Indulal Yagnik here, said there are several things to learn from his life.
"The foremost is the fight against Injustice. Also from Indu Chacha we should learn that to serve the people you don't need a 56" inch chest but strong will power," said Patel.
"The state owes so much to Indu Chacha. But during the golden jubilee celebration of the state, I didn't see any posters of him. The government cannot think that by ignoring Indu Chacha or by not putting his pictures they can erase his memory," he added.
Patel said Yagnik is so strongly rooted in the conscience of every Gujarati and no one can erase his influence
"Another thing to learn is that it is important to clean oneself before shining other things," said Patel.
"But this dispensation is using public money to create a superficial sense of 'shine'. This will not do any good and shall hurt in the long run," he added.
Indulal Yagnik, fondly called Indu chacha, was a noted Gandhian who who spearheaded the 'Mahagujarat Movement' that carved out Gujarat from Mumbai state.
The event was attended by around 3,000 people.
