Mayor of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Anita Behera resigned from her post owning moral responsibility after her name appeared in the beneficiary list for subsidised food grains provided under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The Mayor announced her resignation from both Mayor and Corporator's post of CMC following pressure from various political parties.
The government has also suspended two officials on the ground for preparing wrong entries in the beneficiaries' list. Notably, the names of Anita Behera, her husband and two daughters were found enrolled in the list.
Reviewing the progress of NFSA roll out at the State Secretariat, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked the District Collectors to lodge criminal complaints against erring officials and advised them to wrap up the distribution of NFSA ration card by end of this month.
