Decaying system blamed for decline in Australian cricket

Australian media has claimed that the nation's cricket team is suffering because of a decaying coaching system and it desperately needs a batsman in the order who would give England bowlers something to think about and Warner was the most likely candidate as the opener.

According to news.com.au, if Warner is not used as an opener, he should not bat any lower than three because if he comes in at six and Australia are in deep trouble, his greatest attribute of carrying an ability to destroy an attack quickly is likely to be negated.

Through the golden years of the late 1990s and into the 2000s, the coaches and academies had made Australia strong and now the system had been in decay for some time, the report said.

The report added that Australia's current fascination with a strong middle-order also needed to revise so they have a chance to be the team causing trouble and not the one constantly averting it.

When Australia were dominating, the board was warned by some former players there was trouble looming if they didn't address flaws in the system, the report further said.
