Delhi ex-lab worker succumbs to burns after leveling sexual assault allegations

A former Delhi University lab assistant, who set herself ablaze outside the Delhi Secretariat last week, alleging sexual assault, succumbed to her wounds on Monday morning.

The deceased was admitted to the Lok Nayak Hospital with 90 percent burn injuries on September 30. She tried to immolate herself in anguish and protest against being sexually harassed by the principal and an employee of the B.R. Ambedkar College.

Media reports claim that the victim had claimed that she was taking the extreme step over being sacked from her job.

The Delhi Police are yet to take any action against the alleged perpetrators of the crime, but are believed to be investigating the case.

According to media reports, the victim is a resident of northeast Delhi. She poured kerosene on herself outside Gate Number Six of Delhi Secretariat around 2 p.m. on September 30.

Reports suggest that the sexual assault of the deceased victim took place almost three years ago.

There are also reports that she had complained to Delhi University officials, but no action was taken, and instead, she was sacked in 2012.
