Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said that his government is seriously considering implementing the odd even scheme for 15 days every month.

Addressing a press conference on roll out of the second phase of the scheme beginning from Friday, he added that the public transport needs to be strengthened before implementing the scheme on a regular basis.

The Chief Minister said that in the second phase of the scheme, cars driven by women and those carrying children in school uniform will be exempted, adding that CNG vehicles will also be exempted from the scheme.

Under the scheme, odd number registration cars will run on odd dates and even number on even dates.

The scheme will be in operation from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, however, the scheme will not apply on Sundays.

The VIPs, women drivers, CNG-certified vehicles, two-wheelers and those carrying the differently-abled are exempted from the scheme.

However, the exemption will not apply to Delhi Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues as they have decided to abide by the rule.

Those found violating the scheme will be penalised with a fine of Rs. 2,000.

About 5000 civil defence volunteers will be at various traffic intersections carrying placards explaining the rules to motorists.

The scheme is set to roll out from 15th of this month for 15 days is aimed at curbing pollution in the national capital.

Meanwhile, the DTC is faced with a major crisis with the temperatures soaring,a whopping 400 buses are breaking down in a day, which can put a major dent in the successful implementation of the odd even scheme.
