The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government here to release the salary dues of east MCD employees by June 15.

The high court issued notices to the Centre, the Government of Delhi and officials of the East MCD to take steps to remove the garbage and pay the salaries of civic body staff.

It said that the Delhi Police and the East MCD should hold a meeting to ensure removal of the huge garbage stockpile in the area.

Sanitation workers of East and North Municipal Corporations have been on strike intermittently to protest non-payment of salaries.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and sought Rs 3,000 crore from the Centre to pay pending salaries of sanitation workers, doctors and teachers of municipal corporations in the city.

Earlier in the day, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi met the protesting MCD employees and extended support to them.

Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has announced that Rs.493 crores would be released to the civic bodies today itself to cover the dues.
