Reacting to the suspension of BJP MLA O.P. Sharma for the entire winter session of the Delhi Assembly, party MLA R.P. Singh said Speaker Ram Niwas Goel had acted as if he was not one, but an Aam Aadmi Party activist.
"It's unfortunate that the Speaker is acting as an AAP activist. Had he examined the CCTV footage, he would not have suspended Sharma," said Singh.
Hailing the suspension, Delhi Cabinet Minister Satyendra Jain said, "Sharma's children would have decried him, had he used such words at his home. It was not for the first time that Sharma had used such words, he used to behave in such a manner. There is a resentment among legislators."
When asked about his party leaders' demanding the arrest of Sharma, Jain said, "There was a demand by the legislators."
AAP MLA Pankaj Pushkar, however, said, "It was an unfortunate event, but the Ruling Party itself is not serious considering the importance of the session. The issue could have been resolved amicably, but blowing it out of proportion is unfortunate."
"When the Speaker becomes a party, and states even he was provoked to do something, it incites his party colleagues as well, which is unfortunate," he added.
Sharma, who had hurled offensives at Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba a couple of days back, was on Thursday suspended for the entire winter session of the Delhi Assembly.
During a discussion on homeless people and night shelters on Tuesday, Sharma had attacked Lamba, saying, "Ye toh raat bhar ghumne wali hai."
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too expressed his shock over the comments, and hoped action would be taken against him by the BJP.
