Launching a scathing attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP government, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Saturday said demonetisation is nothing but political propaganda and the Centre trying to earn brownie points from it.
While addressing a press conference here, Mayawati said, "Samajwadi Bahujan Samaj Party is completely against black money and corruption, but it doesn't back the Centre's decision to ban Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes as it is mere a political propaganda."
Training her gun on the government, she further said demonetisation was announced to to conceal its weakness and loopholes.
Criticising the Centre for hampering people's day to day life, she said, "Over 90 percent of the people used to stand in queues to withdraw their own money: The Centre has created a 'Bharat bandh'-like situation."
Dubbing demonetisation as 'unplanned', Mayawati said it has affected both the farmers and poor substantially.
"While people are dealing with this problem keeping their lives at stake, the government is busing concealing their loopholes, she added.
