Employees dependence on email as the primary mode of communication has caused a lack of business productivity.
According to Peter Hughes, an executive at Cisco, email has become abused and are hurting the productivity and has offered web conferencing and online collaboration as more productive alternatives, Stuff.co.nz reported.
According to a 2012 report from consulting firm McKinsey, reading and answering emails constitutes 28 per cent of an employee's weekly work tasks but using social technologies, such as wikis and workplace collaboration tools, instead of email could improve productivity by up to 30 per cent.
