'Divergent' tops box office with $56mln opening

'Divergent' starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the lead has reportedly collected 56million dollars in the opening making it one of the year's biggest openings.

Lionsgate's adaptation of Veronica Roth's best-selling young-adult novels although didn't reach the heights of the studio's other teen franchises, the Huffington Post reported.

The top ten movies at the box office were:

1. 'Divergent' - 56 million dollars

2. 'Muppets Most Wanted' - 16.5 million dollars

3. 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman' - 11.7 million dollars

4. '300: Rise of an Empire' - 8.7 million dollars

5. 'God's Not Dead' - 8.6 million dollars

6. 'Need for Speed' - 7.8 million dollars

7. 'Grand Budapest Hotel' - 7 million dollars

8. 'Non-Stop' - 6.3 million dollars

9. 'The Lego Movie' - 4.1 million dollars
