Members of the Battery Rickshaw Drivers Association staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar here on Wednesday ahead of the Delhi High Court's hearing on the e-rickshaw matter.
They demanded that battery operated rickshaws should be allowed to operate till the government frames new rules and regulations.
"We are protesting against the government. They should allow battery operated rickshaws to ply on the roads till guidelines are framed," said Mahendra Kumar, one of the protestors.
"If the rules for battery operated rickshaws were not in place then why did they allow these rickshaws to operate on the roads in first place," added another protestor Ashok Jindal.
The Delhi High Court, which is expected to hear this matter on Thursday, had earlier on July 31 banned plying of e-rickshaws in the national capital citing safety reasons.
