Former cricketers on Saturday paid tribute to Sachin Tendulkar on his retirement, saying that he was a gift to the game not only in India, but in other parts of the world.
They were unanimous in their view that on retirement after playing 200 Tests and over 400 one-day internationals, and scoring over 34,000 runs, Tendulkar is leaving behind an amazing legacy, which few will be able to emulate.
They also praised his humbleness, his respect for the game, and the grounded way in which he had led his life for the past 24 years , despite the international glare.
Former Indian Test wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia said: "I think god created him to play cricket. I have never seen someone play cricket like him. It is obvious that anyone will get emotional on retiring from a game or a sport that he or she has been associated with for most of his life."
"I feel that he will do something related to cricket, as cricket is in his blood," Mongia added.
Former Test cricketer, captain, selector and manager Chandu Borde said Tendulkar's speech to fans after the match at the Wankhede Stadium had ended reflected his state of mind and the level of emotion that he was experiencing in walking away from the game after 24 years.
"He was mentally and emotionally touched. The legacy that he is leaving behind is amazing. He has always stood on the ground and never complained about the umpires decisions. He has kept himself 100 percent fit."
Borde further said that Tendulkar had never been involved in any wrong thing, which he said is a very good thing.
"Whatever performance he had, it never went to his head. Whatever decision he will take in Rajya Sabha will be taken. Indian cricket is in good state as we have some very good players with us. I wish Sachin very good health.
