My Driver Tulong and Other Tall Tales from a Post Pol Pot Contemporary Cambodia by M P Jospeh launched his book on Thursday in the presence of Shashi Tharoor as the guest of honour, Hon. Justice Kurian Joseph and Prof. K. V. Thomas MP.
The event which took place in New Delhi also witnessed the presence of creme de' la of the city.
The book un-intrusively brings out Cambodia as the global tourist hot-spot that it is today, portraying not only Angkor Wat - the largest Hindu Temple in the world, built a thousand years ago on whose never-ending walls you can read picture-stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana as though you were reading from an Amar Chitra Katha picture-story book, but also as a land in whose people guilt and innocence reside artlessly side by side, with no contradiction whatsoever.
"Cambodia is a fascinating country, and I fell in love with it at first sight. 'My Driver Tulong' tries to capture that love, the land and its people in a fictional travelogue," said M P Jospeh.
The book also looks at the successes of the UN and International Aid Agencies in Cambodia, and its ways there.
Cambodia is a country where billions of dollars have been pumped into as aid and is a rare symbol of the success of the UN and Aid Agencies.
It is one of the few countries in the world where the UN has successfully hand-held a country from extreme excesses into 'democracy'.
