Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand revealed that his injury had forced him to quit England and he could only play for a couple of years more or two or three games in England, ending his England career in a year.
Ferdinand had rejected his opportunity for England recall and claimed that United's outgoing manager Alex Ferguson's retirement had provoked him to think whether or not his stay in the sport has come to an end too, the Sun reports.
Stating that he could not have sacrificed his fitness for earning some more trophies for England, Ferdinand said that his health issues would not have been fair for United to deal with and would have been a disservice both to the club and to England.
Ferdinand also claimed that the injury had pushed him into a state of depression as it not only cost him his place in the England squad during Euro 2012 but also made it clear that the lights on his career are dimming.
