FICCI to host two roundtables on policing and quake disaster mitigation

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will host two roundtables here on Friday.

The first roundtable will be on smart policing and it being linked to India's growth, while the second will focus on earthquake disaster mitigation in India.

For the roundtable on 'Smart Policing- India's Growth Imperative', Anoop Kumar Srivastava, Secretary (Border Management)will deliver the keynote address.

The other prominent speakers include Julio F Ribeiro, Former Mumbai Police Commissioner and Director General of Police of Punjab, P. V. Rama Sastry, Inspector General of Police of the National Investigation Agency and Secretary, Indian Police Service (Central) Association.

The objective of the roundtable is to debate the implications of internal security challenges on India's growth. The programme will also discuss how smart policing can help in mitigating security risks.

The second roundtable on earthquake disaster mitigation in India will see Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minster for Earth Sciences, delivering the inaugural address.

P K Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office and R K Jain, Member Secretary of the NDMA are also slated to address the inaugural session.

This conference is first of its kind in the country after the April 25 earthquake in Nepal and is aimed at sensitising builders, real estate, construction, iron and steel, cement, hardware and related industries about earthquake safety, safe construction and the Shake Lab - a device for shaking structural models or building components with a wide range of simulated ground motion.

The session will also dwell on what possible efforts can be made by the real estate industry to improve their housing infrastructure, their administrative building, their plants, assets and manpower to safeguard themselves against earthquake disasters.
