Fredericton shooter charged with four counts of murder

The accused in the shooting incident in Canada's Fredericton was charged on Saturday with four counts of first-degree murder.

48-year-old Matthew Vincent Raymond was behind Friday's shooting in the city's Brookside Drive area, which killed four, including two cops.

Fredericton police chief, Leanne Fitch confirmed to the media that Raymond had also sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire with the police, wherein he (Raymond) used a long gun, and is currently hospitalised, Sputnik reported.

"Today, a 48-year old Fredericton man was charged with four counts of first degree murder in this incident. Matthew Vincent Raymond was charged in the morning of August 11th with the death of 45-year old Constable Lawrence Rob Costello and 43-year old Constable Sara Mae Helen Burns and our citizens Donald Robichaud and Bobbie Wright," Fitch told reporters.

Fitch also confirmed that Raymond would be kept in custody until August 27, the scheduled date for a court hearing of his case, adding that investigations to ascertain the motive behind the incident were ongoing.
