Defending French Open champion Maria Sharapova has advanced to the third round after beating World No.91 Vitalia Diatchenko in straight sets 6-3 6-1.
Diatchenko, 24, briefly tested her fellow Russian before losing the first set on a double fault. Two-time champion Sharapova, 28, saved two break points in the first game of the second set but went on to seal victory in 80 minutes.
On Wednesday, Roger Federer, the 2009 champion, will play Marcel Granollers in the second round, reports the BBC.
Seventeen-time Grand Slam winner Federer, from Switzerland, has won all three of his previous meetings with the Spaniard.
Sharapova will now play 2010 finalist Samantha Stosur in the third round after the Australian beat wildcard Amandine Hesse 6-0 6-1 in 54 minutes.
