The Congress Party on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lying to the nation on the implementation of 'One Rank One Pension' and asked the BJP-led NDA Government to apologise the Indian Armed Forces and ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal's family for questioning his mental state.

Criticising Prime Minister Modi, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Our country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is lying and speaking lies has become part of his personality. If OROP had been granted then why did Grewal committed suicide? And if OROP had been granted then how come our soldiers are protesting from 607 days at the Jantar Mantar. If OROP had been granted then how come they are crying for justice? This in itself signifies that Modiji is lying."

"General V.K. Singh is acting as principle Modi ji's diciple and he is passing disparaging insulting remarks against the entire army and by insulting Subedar Ramkishan Grewal and questioning his mental state, shows the disregard and disrespect that Modi ji have for them," he added.

Sympathising with the family of the deceased ex-serviceman, Surjewala said, "He was a brave soldier, who died not for his own cause but for the cause of OROP. For the cause of millions of soldiers who are being denied benefits.

The Congress Party will take this fight from Parliament up to the streets. Rahul Gandhi is committed to fight for the welfare of India's soldiers and he will under his leadership. Congress will continue to do so."

Surjewala further said that the manner and fashion in which Grewal was forced to commit suicide on account of denial of OROP after 30 years of service under seventh pay commission was heart rendering.

"Modi Government may see politics when family of a dead soldier is beaten up. But, it is truly their pain. Modi Government may see politics when soldiers cry for justice and political parties, including Rahul Gandhi ji raises the issue. But the truth is that it is a clarion call for justice by those brave hearts who defend us day in day out," he said.

Grewal consumed poison on Tuesday, but the cause behind his suicide is yet to be ascertained.
