Goa celebrates 54th Liberation day

Goa celebrated the 54th anniversary of the Goa Liberation Day. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar unfurled the tricolour, inspected the parade and took salute at the state level function held at Campal grounds here.

Union Minister of State for AAYUSH Shripad Naik was also present on the occasion.

Goa was liberated by the Indian Army from the clutches of Portuguese rule in 1961.

Parsekar, who also addressed the gathering, said his government is going in full swing to develop infrastructure in the state. He added that the state's investment promotion policy has worked well and attracted about five and half thousand crore investment and expected to provide for eleven thousand jobs in the state.

Speaking about the extensive welfare measures adopted by the state government, Parsekar said that 1, 36,000 senior citizens are benefited in the pension scheme and 1, 33, 000 poor women are given dearness allowance of Rs.1200 every month to cope with the rising prices.

A number of programmes were organised in the state capital and people celebrated the liberation day with joy and fervour.
