Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday took suo motu cognizance of the incident of the alleged murder of a criminal in Colvale Jail in north Goa and ordered a Sub Divisional Magistrate enquiry into the incident.
Parsekar took the floor just before the beginning of question hour in the Assembly and made the announcement.
The convict Ashpak Bengre was allegedly murdered by another inmate during the morning walk of the jailed inmates earlier today.
He was taken to the nearby government hospital in Mapusa and declared brought dead.
As per reports, Bengre was booked by the Karnataka, Goa and Chandigarh Police for various offences like extortion and drug peddling.
He was brought to Goa on a transfer remand after he was arrested by Chandigarh police for allegedly smuggling drugs into the country in May last year.
