Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal on has said that the Government will take all necessary steps to help Haryana state-level boxer Rishu Mittal, after reports emerged of her working as a domestic help to earn her livelihood.
"I have directed officials to take up the issue with the Haryana government, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Boxing Federation. We will get to the bottom of the matter in detail and find the best possible way to help her out," Sonowal told ANI.
The boxer, who hails from Kaithal in Haryana, won the gold medal in state level championship in 2014 in the 46 kg category and represented Haryana during national games in Gwalior last December. Earlier she had won bronze medals in Bhivani and Faridabad in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
