Noted Filmmaker, lyricist and poet, Gulzar , on Saturday stated that he was very happy to be chosen for the prestigiuos Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2013.
"It is very satisfying and fulfilling. It is a national award for the work we have done the whole life. It is an assessment and appreciation for the work we have done so long. I am thankful to all the teachers who have let me learn," Gulzar said
He also stated that, " it is a cliche to say I have got the award late, therefore, I got it at the right time."
Gulzar becomes the 45th recipient of the Award.
A seven member jury of eminent artists unanimously recommended Gulzar for the award, the highest recognition of the Government of India (GOI) for outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), cash prize of 10 lakh rupees and a shawl.
