The US House of Representatives passed a resolution to overturn President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration, on Tuesday (local time).
Trump had declared the emergency on February 15 to fulfil his Presidential campaign promise of building a wall on the US-Mexico border.
The resolution was passed 245-182, with 13 Republicans supporting the Democrats, reports CNN.
The measure is likely to pass in the US Senate as well, as it now it has to be presented in the upper chamber within the next 18 days.
Trump had earlier threatened to veto the resolution if it comes to him, which will occur if the US Senate passes the measure.
CNN reports that three in five voters in Texas - the state which will be most affected by the emergency - disapprove of Trump's usage of emergency powers to secure funding for the wall, according to a poll by Quinnipiac University.
