After receiving widespread criticism for her statement that parliamentarians do indulge in small talks and gossip when speeches at Parliament get repetitive, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on Friday clarified that she had been misquoted and added that the issue was taken out of context.
"I've been completely misquoted. The entire story going around is unfortunately completely out of context," she said.
She further clarified that the event she was addressing wasn't a formal function.
"It wasn't a formal function. It was just an informal chit-chat with young students. We were joking around with each other. To judge the case one will have to go through my 20 minutes speech. The speech was on a lighter mode," she added.
Sule had earlier said that like school students, the parliamentarians too sometimes get bored after listening to lengthy lectures and debates in the House and discuss other topics among themselves.
