The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre to convene meeting and file a report over the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on identification of religious minorities and granting them due benefits.
The apex court fixed July 31 as the next date for hearing in the case.
A bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Jagdish Singh Khehar was hearing a PIL filed by Ankur Sharma.
In the last hearing, the top court t had asked the Union of India and the state of Jammu and Kashmir to file a Joint proposal to resolve the problems and issues faced by minorities in the state.
The petitioner in the case is Ankur Sharma, who is seeking the court's intervention for a direction to identify the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir and give all the benefits to the deserving people.
Sharma also sought that at present, the wrong people are getting illegal benefits of welfare schemes meant for the minority community.
