Commenting on the 17th Round of India-China Special Representatives Talks, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Monday said the talks aim for a framework for resolution of the boundary question.
The Indian delegation to the talks is led by Shivshankar Menon, National Security Advisor, while the Chinese delegation is led by State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
"India and China have an elaborate mechanism for dialogues that cover all aspect of bilateral relations. The special representatives are expected to focus their discussion for a framework for the resolution of the boundary in question. This constitutes the second step of the three stage process," said Akbaruddin.
"In addition to the deliberations on the India-China boundary question, the two representatives will also discuss the bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest," he added.
Akbaruddin also said that preceding Special Representatives Talks, the 5th meeting of the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on the India-China border affairs is scheduled.
These are working level talks and are led by Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs Gautam Bambawale. Representatives from defense and home affairs ministry, as well as the members from Indian Army and Indo Tibetan Border Police, will also attend the meeting. Similarly equivalent representatives from the Chinese side will attend the meeting.
"These talks are expected to review recent development on the India-China border areas especially the western sector, the implementation of Border Defense Cooperation Agreement, issues relating to additional confidence building measures and further steps for maintain peace and tranquility along the India-China Border," said Akbaruddin.
