Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday met President of the Senate of Rwanda Bernard Makuza.

The two dignitaries dwelled upon the issues of the bilateral interest and opportunities for cooperation for mutual benefit.

The two leaders also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rajya Sabha and the Senate of the Republic ofRwanda.

The MoU, with six articles of cooperation, seeks to promote inter-parliamentary dialogue and capacity building of the parliamentary staff.

It also facilitates the organisation of conferences, forums, seminars, staff-attachment programmes, workshops and exchanges.

The two sides also concurred to cooperate in regional and international multilateral parliamentary bodies in a bid to promote the relations between the two countries.

Bilateral relations between India and Rwanda have been cordial and have grown steadily over the years. In 1999, Rwanda officially opened its Mission in New Delhi.
