In a latest twist in the doping saga, the International Olympic Committee on Friday announced that a further 45 athletes have tested positive for prohibited substance after samples from the London and Beijing Olympics were reanalysed.

The additional positive tests have taken the total number of athletes who have failed drug test to 98 since a retesting programme was launched.

The IOC also disclosed that 23 of the 30 positive tests taken from the Beijing samples were medallists while 15 positive tests from the London Games were from nine countries and two sports.

Reflecting on the latest development, IOC president Thomas Bach said in a statement the new reanalysis once again showed the commitment of the IOC in the fight against doping, Sport24 reported.

This development comes a day after the Court of Arbitration for Sport had dismissed the appeal of 68 track and field Russian athletes over the ban imposed on them by the governing body of world athletics, the IAAF, over accusations of state-sponsored doping in the country.
