The official media channel of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Amaq Agency, today reported an operation in north-west Raqqa involving an Indian Abu Yusuf al-Hindi.

It is possible that Abu Yusuf could be Mohammad Shafi Armar, who was declared as a 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist' by the United States in June this year, reportedly was the first Indian leader of the dreaded terror outfit against whom America took action.

The message by media channel Amaq reportedly informed that the terrorist organisation ISIS, in a combat with the Kurdish Worker's Party, also known as PKK, lost Indian Abu al-Hindi, along with Australian Abu Fahad.

The battle reportedly took place in Syria's Raqqa.

In a statement in June 2017, the State Department of the United States described Armar as the "leader and head recruiter" in India for the ISIS.

The US State Department statement further reads, "He has cultivated dozens of ISIS sympathisers who are involved in terrorist activities across India, such as plotting attacks, procuring weapons, and identifying locations for terrorist training camps.
