In an attempt to promote judicious use of essential commodities in social, government and private functions, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has imposed several restrictions over use of dry fruits, loudspeakers vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes amongst others.

According to the order, restrictions have been placed on sending dry fruits and sweets along with invitation cards and use of loudspeakers in government or private social functions.

A limitation has also been placed on the number of guests that can be invited.

For a daughter's wedding, a maximum of five hundred guests can be invited while the number stands at a maximum of four hundred for a son.

As per the rule, only hundred guests can be invited for an engagement ceremony.

The number of non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes has been restricted to seven and only two stalls of fruits and sweets have been allowed. The restrictive order also aims at ensuring that no wastage of food takes place.

Any amount of surplus food must be properly packed and distributed to old-age homes and other deserving people.

In order to preserve the environment, the government has made proper disposal of any non-decomposable material mandatory for the organiser.

This order of Jammu and Kashmir Government shall come in force from 1st April 2017.
