A woman in Narayanpur block of Jharkhand's Jamtara district died after she was allegedly gang-raped by three men, including her former husband. The police have arrested the main accused.
A case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered by the police.
The incident took place late on Wednesday night. The woman was taken away to a field after the village fair, where she was gang-raped. The incident came to light on Thursday morning after the villagers heard her cries for help. After raping her, the accused had inserted a stick in her private parts.
The villagers took her to the police station where her statement was recorded. She was then taken to the primary health centre. When her condition worsened, she was shifted to a hospital. She died on Thursday afternoon at Sadar Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer B N Singh, said, "In her statement, the victim said that she was raped by her husband. He has been arrested and an FIR has been lodged. She also mentioned about two other men.
