Union Minister and senior Congress leader Jayanthi Natarajan met DMK chief M Karunanidhi at his residence here today.
The meeting assumed significance as it came ahead of the June 27 Rajya Sabha polls to six seats from Tamil Nadu.
Though DMK has walked out of the UPA alliance, this is the first time that a Congress Member has met Karunanidhi.
Karunanidhi yesterday said that the doors are open for their party to decide on the alliance for nominating a lone member seat in the Rajya Sabha election.
DMK, which has 23 MLAs, is in the need of 11 more MLAs to support their candidate in case they field one person.
The decision of the Congress, which has five members in the Assembly, is important as the filing of nominations would be closing on June 17. Already five AIADMK candidates have filed their nominations.
