Ace Indian shuttler Ajay Jayaram kicked off his Hong Kong Open Super Series tournament on a winning note as he battled past Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia to reach the second round of the men's singles event here on Wednesday.
After comfortably winning the first game, the 29-year-old from Hyderabad went down in the second before he bounced back in style to register a 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 win over his Indonesian opponent in the opening round contest that lasted about an hour.
With the win, Jayaram has now set up a clash against Huang Yuxiang of China for a place in the quarter-finals.
In another men's singles clash, B.Sai Praneeth suffered a major blow as he crashed out of the tournament after going down 18-21, 18-21 at the hands of third-seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark.
