A software engineering student in Jammu and Kashmir has developed a mobile application for reporting crime and seeking help in times of emergency.

Tanveer Islam Bhat, a student of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELT) Srinagar, said the rising incidents of crime inspired him to create the 'Online Crime Report App'.

Explaining the application's method, Bhat said that one needs to install it in their Android phone and key in emergency contact details like that of a family member and the local police station. During an emergency, with just a click, one can report incidents of crime that will be automatically sent to the listed contacts. Also, at times of emergency, an inbuilt message like 'please help me' will be automatically sent to the given contacts.

Bhat, who hails from Sopore region of the state, also requested the state IT Department to encourage youngsters to come forward with similar innovative ideas.
