The Kathmandu Valley is reportedly again facing a shortage of petrol, even as the government recently inked an agreement with China to import petroleum products.

According to a report in The Himalayan Times, inefficient monitoring has created fuel shortage and is encouraging black-marketers who have reportedly taken advantage of a weak market monitoring mechanism.

Long queues of vehicles were seen in front of fuel stations on Sunday and Monday, despite reports of additional fuel being supplied from the Thankot Depot of the Nepal Oil Corporation to fuel stations here.

The daily quoted Netra Prasad Kafle, the chief of the NOC's Thankot Depot, as saying that on Friday, around 497,000 litres was supplied to petrol pumps, while 510,000 litres of petrol was supplied on Sunday.

In normal times, the consumption of petrol is around 350,000 litres per day.
