A three-day chess championship for visually impaired kicked off on Saturday in Kerala in which nearly 120 players are competing.
The championship has been organised by Chess Association for the Blind and Kerala Blind School Society.
The unsighted and sighted contestants have come together from six different states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to take part in the championship.
There are 15 Federation Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) or World Chess Federation players also participating in the championship which concludes on Monday.
Ajesh Kumar, member of Chess Association for the Blind, said that their goal was to make the players efficient.
"The primary aim of the Chess Association for the Blind is to make unsighted and sighted, efficient to play in front of the same board," said Kumar.
The All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) is the governing body for the game of chess among visually impaired in India which was formed in 1997 with a view to promote the game of chess among the visually impaired all over the country.
